Success story

A small retailer runs two storefronts and a marketplace from one catalog

Hurley's Religious Goods

Hurley's wanted a simple, affordable store kept in step with its back office; PeakBeyond built it, moved its hosting, and later added a second storefront and marketplace selling from the same catalog.

Enterprise problems on a small-retailer budget

Hurley's supplies Catholic and religious goods from Fargo, selling to churches and individuals. Volume is modest, so every monthly cost has to earn its place.

Even so, the requirements are the same as a larger retailer's: products, stock and orders in step with the back office, without a team to reconcile them by hand.

Later the business wanted to sell through a second storefront and a marketplace, including fulfillment by the marketplace itself — from the same single catalog, without doubling the work.

Keep it simple, and make one catalog serve every channel

PeakBeyond scoped the original build for value: a basic back-office integration covering products, stock and orders, with shipping, quoting and payment handled by chosen extensions rather than custom work.

When new channels were added, the principle held — one catalog with a multi-website category tree and store-specific uploads, so the second storefront and the marketplace draw on the same data.

Marketplace and fulfillment orders were mapped to their own back-office stores, so the business can see what each channel actually earns.

As maintenance and search questions grew, we compared platforms for Hurley's specifically — including how each handles decimal quantities and gift cards with the back office — rather than assuming the popular answer was the right one.

One catalog, several ways to sell it

PeakBeyond has taken small, well-chosen steps with Hurley's for eight years rather than big rebuilds, keeping one catalog behind every channel.

  • Built for the volume, not the brochure — Oversaw the original store build and chose the shipping, quoting and payment extensions rather than commissioning custom work.
  • Connected the back office — Scoped and tested the integration for products, stock and orders, then moved the site to dedicated hosting and repaired scheduled imports and integration settings after cutover.
  • Made one catalog serve every channel — A multi-website category tree with store-specific uploads for the second storefront, and marketplace and marketplace-fulfilled orders mapped to their own back-office stores so each channel's earnings are visible.
  • Answers the platform question with evidence — Compared platform options against Hurley's own requirements, including decimal quantities and gift cards with the back office, and investigated intermittent tax call failures with the integration partner.

The business changes course only when a comparison built on its own requirements says to, which is how a small retailer sells in three places with the overhead of one.

Three sales channels, one set of data, costs under control

The store launched in 2019 with back-office sync in place, at a cost that suited the volume.

The second storefront and the marketplace now run from the same catalog, with each channel's orders landing in its own back-office store for clean reporting.

Platform questions get answered with a comparison built on Hurley's own requirements, so the business changes course only when the evidence says to.
